R Radiografi panoramik merupakan pemeriksaan penunjang diagnostik yang penting dalam kedokteran gigi, salah satunya dalam mengidentifikasi penurunan kepadatan tulang pada mandibula yang berkaitan erat dengan gangguan metabolisme tulang, yaitu osteoporosis. Osteoporosis memiliki manifestasi dalam rongga mulut, antara lain resorbsi tulang alveolar, berkurangnya ketebalan kortikal mandibula dan hilangnya sejumlah gigi, serta dapat mempengaruhi diagnosis dan rencana perawatan kedokteran gigi, diantaranya pencabutan gigi, prosedur bedah dan penggunaan gigi tiruan. Penelitian ini menggunakan subjek penelitian berusia 20 – 40 tahun dikarenakan risiko osteoporosis dapat diidentifikasi oleh kepadatan tulang di usia dewasa muda dan terus meningkat seiring bertambahnya usia. Hal tersebut dapat diidentifikasi dengan mengukur ketebalan tulang kortikal pada mandibula melalui analisis radiomorfometrik pada radiografi panoramik. Indeks radiomorfometrik yang digunakan adalah Panoramic Mandibular Index. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan Panoramic Mandibular Index antara laki-laki dan perempuan pada usia 20 – 40 tahun. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analitik komparatif dengan sampel sebanyak 150 radiografi panoramik digital dengan 75 laki-laki dan 75 perempuan yang didapat dari Instalasi Radiologi Kedokteran Gigi RSGM Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Uniersitas Trisakti. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata nilai Panoramic Mandibular Index antara laki-laki (0,3517 mm) dan perempuan (0,3599 mm) pada usia 20 – 40 tahun tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan dengan p-value = 0,603 (p-value > 0,05). Hal tersebut dikarenakan oleh proses mineralisasi dan demineralisasi yang disebut sebagai bone remodeling pada usia 20 – 40 tahun berjalan seimbang dan konstan. Berdasarkan hasil yang didapatkan, diketahui bahwa nilai Panoramic Mandibular Index dapat digunakan sebagai panduan dan pemeriksaan penunjang dalam mendeteksi gangguan metabolisme tulang.

I In dentistry, panoramic radiography used as an important additional diagnostic tool, which can be used in identificating low bone density in mandible which is related to bone disease, such as osteoporosis. Oral manifestasions caused by osteoporosis are alveolar bone resorption, reduced in cortical mandibular bone thickness and severe tooth loss, which could affect the diagnosis and treatment plan in dentistry, such as tooth extraction, surgery procedure and the use of dental prosthesis. This study used a sample aged 20 – 40 years old because the risk of osteoporosis can be examined from bone density in young adults and continues to increase with age. It can be identified by measuring the cortical bone thickness in the mandible through radiomorphometric analysis in panoramic radiography. Radiomorphometric index used is Panoramic Mandibular Index. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there are any differences in Panoramic Mandibular Index of male and female between 20 – 40 years. The method used in this study is comparative analytic with 150 digital panoramic radiography which consist of 75 male and 75 female, collected from Radiology Installation Dental Hospital Faculty of Dentistry, University of Trisakti. The results shows that the mean of Panoramic Mandibular Index of male (0,3517 mm) and female (0,3599 mm) between 20 – 40 years old showed no significant differences with p-value = 0,603 (p-value > 0,05).
